YES wont boot

i have YES 2.2.3 (i have also tried earlier versions as well)
i meet the requirements
it installs fine...
but when it reboots, it gets to a screen and then it shows an uppercase "L" on the left of the screen, and infinite loops it and scrolls the screen

i have waited to see if it was just doing this temporarily but it still does the same even after another reboot.

can anyone help?

yes that is a lilo issue. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Bootdisk-HOWTO/a1483.html

yes you can.  you have to add the grub libs and configure grub.  you can also add it to the iso.  you could also look into upgrading lilo from src.

version 3 will use grub as the loader.
